Are you up to the challenge?

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Well, I tried.

Hey, Emitt speaking.
When my Aunt Lizzie graduated from college and came home this summer, she started thinking about a job.

I knew I had my work cut-out for me.

I had a mission. My mission?

To try very, VERY hard to keep her in my 5-mile radius...
FOREVER!
So, I pulled out the old "quality-time card"...

Lots and

lots and
lots and
and lots

lots of quality time!

But wait.

That wasn't enough.

She suddenly started considering jobs that were outside my little world.

This was serious.

I was FORCED to put on the charm.

I tried to be silly...

I tried to be cute...

I tried to be funny...

I tried be sad...

I even tried to SHARE my food!!

Did it work?

Nope.

She broke "the news" to me gently....

It was true. She was moving far, far away.

I think I took it pretty good.

Well. Maybe not. (Photo: Andy&Jenna PhotoDesign)

But then I heard the GOOD news!

Aunt Lizzie will be...

Living with this great person:

Renting from these great people:(photo: Tami Paige Photography)

Working for these great people:(Photo: Tami Paige Photography)

At this great ministry:

Guess I can't complain too much, huh?

We love you and will miss you Aunt Lizzie!

Try to call, okay?
(my mommy made me write this...said it's good therapy for her) :)

We're Back!

We're back and had a wonderful week in Florida! The trip was a "Rewards Trip" from one of Klint's companies.

When we arrived, we really felt like....THESE guys...

pulling up to THIS....
driving THIS...

Buuuuut....we soon got over that and enjoyed this...
and this...

and this.

I just had to post this pic. Pretty cute. Klint dressed and ready for a morning meeting:

Our bodies are currently on a painful detox :) We ate SO much...seriously....it was bad.
We participated in 2 excursions:
1. A sail boat ride to see all the amazing homes
2. A Jet Ski ride out on the ocean (yes, Janel, I survived...whew.) Actually, it was pretty cool once I accepted that fact that we probably wouldn't capsize the thing.
We saw lots of dolphins throughout the week...definitely some of the more adorable of God's creation...
Klint, Perry & Taf taking a break from the sun to watch football at 'Quinn's on the Beach'...

Funny. I never got the memo to wear plaid shorts this night ;)...

This is what happens when you BURN yourself the day before...
Our hotel had a coffee shop called Fidalgo Bay Coffee. I was a little hesitant to try it. When we finally did...dare I admit this?? Yes, better than Starbucks!!!

Perry & Taffy at an amazing Italian restaurant...

Same Italian restaurant. Klint had just said something really funny...hence my cheesy smile/laugh...

The hotel at night...
The "Tropical" party banquet...the last night
And, we headed home at 4:30 am...it was a loooooong trip...

Back to this...

and this...

And we're not even complaining! Great to be home and back with Emitt. A HUGE thanks to our amazing families for watching the Mitters!
(All 3 of us are on withdraw.)

Cute Picture & the Sunny South

Last weekend, Uncle Seth bought this hat for Emitt at the KA Auction (thanks Seth!).

Sunday night, we realized Aunt Sarah Q had one too! Isn't this the cutest picture?Well, Klint and I are headed to the Sunny South today! If you can't sleep tonight, send up a little prayer for safe travels!

This is going to be SO good for us! In order to have Internet access, we have to pay $15 per 24 hours! Uhg!! That's not gonna happen!

So, we may be Internet-free for the next week! (Although, Leah is graciously loaning her Laptop to us...we may just have to find a Starbucks:))

Have a great week, everyone!

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Okay, so that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 pieces of gum. And a couple raisins.Just 1 minute before, I was boastfully thinking to myself, "Wow, I can't believe how good he plays by himself!!!"

Guess he proved me wrong.

The Rough Ol' Life of Ranger Emitt:

Well, Emitt got promoted this year for Halloween....
Last year: a bedraggled little Lobster...
This year: a tough and courageous Park Ranger...
He had Buffalo to chase...Forest fires to extinguish...

And lots of important people to meet with...

And of course, consuming a fair amount of junk food along the way...

All in all? A pretty good year.
But, you know, it's a rough ol' life for Ranger Emitt...

Emitt's Daily Exercise Routine...

video

Hey, at least he gets it honest! According Klint's parents, little-jumping-Klint BROKE his crib from this very act!

If we try to sell you Emitt's crib...don't do it! When he's finished, it won't be safety-approved!

Grandpa Alvin would be ashamed.

Costumes, Costumes, Costumes!

Remember this from last year? Well, Michael & Jane's Costume Party is coming up this weekend and we are very excited for this annual event! Props to Jane - she even has a newborn!

To check out the costumes from 2005, 2006 & 2007, click here.
To check out the costumes from 2008, click here.

Since the costumes are suppose to be a secret.....shhhh..., I can't tell you what we are going as. But, I must give a fair WARNING: Poor Klint. Yeah, it's pretty bad this year. He is being an amazing sport! When I decided to do this costume, I really didn't think it would be too bad for Klint. However, after shopping and shopping and putting his outfit together....yikes, painful. That's all I'm going to say.

Stay tuned!

Differences, differences...

So Klint went Paintballing last weekend with the guys.

I put our camera in his bag and STRONGLY encouraged him to take some great pictures. Actually, I strongly encouraged him a couple times to take some great pictures. ;)

When he got home, I had to laugh. Ah, the difference between guys and girls. Check these out...

There you have it!

(Although, Klint, I was pretty impressed with that "group pic"!)

Gotta love it!

Attention Right-Brainers!

If you're like me, you know lot's of people that need prayers.

If you're like me, you really want to pray for those people.

If you're like me, you get terribly overwhelmed remembering who to pray for.

If you're like me, you feel tons of guilt KNOWING you're not praying for all of them.

If you're like me, you've tried a Prayer Lists. Many times.

If you're like me, you do NOT like Prayer Lists (sorry, father dear).

If you're like me, you get so confused, you end up praying for like the same 5 people. Over and over and over again.

So, here's a tip to all you Right-Brained-Individuals. I think this is my 4th week at it and I'm still going!

Write each person needing prayers on a slip of paper (you can leave room on the paper to write 'specific' requests).

Fold the paper and place it into your own "Prayer Jar".
By the end of the week, the Prayer Jar must be empty!

It is not overwhelming at all. I've been adding more names each week!

You can pull out a name anytime of the day! While you're cooking, during devotions, at the dinner table - you name it!!

I'm sure this is an age-old idea, but it's new to me and I really enjoy it! Guilt free!

Happy Tuesday!

Grandpa's Semi

A few weeks ago, Emitt refused to take a ride on Grandpa's semi. (Yeah, he's cautious like that). This past weekend, Klint and I decided to go for Attempt #2.

Did he like it?
Did he like it?
Did he like it?
Uh, yeah, he LOVED it!!
Thanks Grandpa!

Welcome Home!

Leah & I have been pretty pumped to have my parents home from their forever-long trip to Italy.

AND we're so excited to have Seth home from Mexico for 2 weeks!

Both Seth and my parents flew-in yesterday!

Leah, Emitt & I made the very impractical 4-hour drive (actually 5 hours with the traffic) yesterday to the airport to SURPRISE Dad & Mom and WELCOME THEM HOME!

Can you blame us? You know it's been a year since we've seen them...okay, uh...maybe 17 days.

Leah drove the Blue Streak...

I made the "Welcome Home" signs...

And Emitt just sat in the back. This is pretty much what he did the whole trip. Just sit here listening to his music...

laughing...

or sleeping. YES! He was an amazing traveler.

Well after some rain, some confusion with the time-change, some frustrating traffic, and just a little bit of road rage (right, Liz?)...

We FINALLY made it to the airport...

AND after a lot of waiting... and waiting...

and waiting...

and waiting...

we met up with Aaron, Bekah & Seth (sorry, bad picture)

Then we waited and waited

and waited.............

FINALLY...we saw them coming through the doors!!

Yep. They were SURPRISED...very.

They were SO excited to see Emitt....uh...I mean, all of us.

So great to have them HOME!

Lot's of smiles...

Love this picture. Denny & Bonnie bought back this adorable sweatshirt for Aaron & Bekah's baby (due in Feb)...

After about 3 hours in that stuffy airport, Emitt was EXHAUSTED...

Panera for supper...

The ride home was a bit painful for the jet-lagged folk (and the rest of us), but we made it a little after midnight.

Welcome Home Seth, Dad & Mom!!

Yay or Nay?

Opinions needed!

Okay, so we've had empty wall space above our table over a year. I've procrastinated buying anything because...

a) I didn't know what I wanted

b) Could get expensive

Well, I ran into a possiblity the other day and decided to buy it. Now. I need to decide if I like it. Let me expound on the pros and cons...

Here it is folks...The Cons are as follows...
1) It's not exactly "me"

2) The style DOES NOT jive with my kitchen rugThe Pros are as follows...

1) The gold circles match my...gold walls.

2) The aqua rectangles and thegreen circles match

our oh-so-retro vinyl kitchen chairs.3) AND it was a VERY reasonable price!

So, WHAT do you think?! Yay or Nay?

Oh, and don't fret...tag is still on. We can return.{For all you non-confrontational folk, you can participate in my anonymous, non-exposing poll on the right-hand side bar} >>>

Update on our life...

Well, it's been over a week since I last posted! Here's a little update on life here...

1. Kidney Stones are still kickin'. Let's just say, I'm thankful it's a new day. No picture available.

2. Our bodies are officially on detox from the fair last week. I think our attendance was 6 times this year....we're doing better, folks!

Here's Emitt at the Thursday night Industrial Parade...

3. And announcing some exciting news....

There's a wedding coming soon!! Congrats Ryan & Jamy!!!

4. What's up with this kid waking at 6:00am?! I am having a hard time smiling at him today.

5. The "jury's still out" on whether that black ink will wash out of my couch cushions. I have YET to hear from the Dry Cleaners....hmmm, it's been over a week...maybe a bad sign?

Oh, and here is Emitt's public apology for getting ink on my furniture...can't you tell he's saying, "SORRRRRY!"

(Okay, so maybe he was just ticked at me for other reasons.)

6. The highlight of Emitt's day: when 'Uncle' Jesse calls!

7. You'll never guess what my parents are doing today.

Okay, I'll tell you. Oh, they're just taking a train from Tuscany to Florence. You know, just an everyday occurrence. Kinda like me driving The Blue Streak from my house to Walmart.

We miss you! That 7 minutes and 49 seconds on the phone yesterday was NOT long enough :(

8. Well, I am going to attempt to make a meal for someone today. Those of you who know my track-record, send up a heartfelt prayer!Happy Tuesday!!

Monday Morning

Last night I returned home from a great weekend get-away with friends.

Back to reality.

The morning started out with a 6:30 am wake-up from Emitt. Goooood Mornin'!

10:45 am phone conversation with my dear hubby...

Sarah: Well, Emitt gave me a nice "welcome home, Mommy" gift this morning.
Klint: What's that?
Sarah: Oh, just guess.
Klint: Un-rolled all the toilet paper?
Sarah: I wish.
Klint: Spilled something on the kitchen floor?
Sarah: I wish
Klint: Pooped and wiped it all over the walls and floor?
Sarah: Now you're getting closer.
Sarah: Ink pad.
Klint: (laughing)
Sarah: What's so funny?!
Klint: (laughing) sorr (laughing) y
Sarah: I can't believe you are laughing!
Klint: (laughing) sorry!

Well, Emitt's ink-y clothes are in the wash machine as we speak, he's wreaking extreme havoc on the house, just had a nasty collision with his high chair (tears), SHUT DOWN the entire computer as I was typing this and knocked over my 7-foot floor lamp. AHHH! We're fallin' apart here!!!

And me? I'm having these weird flashbacks from my get-away last weekend and all the great, spiritual discussions we had. Something along the lines of self-control and temper issues....??? I think I'm failing miserably.

Alrighty then! I'm off to the Dry Cleaners to drop-off my couch cushion covers. I hope that black ink will wash out!

Welcome home INDEED, Mommy!!!!

Guess what?!

I've been feeling kinda sick lately...

The couch is my friend...

I've been pretty exhausted...

I've been to the Doctor and he confirmed my suspicions...

There's something very tiny moving inside of me...

We just wanted to announce that

IT'S OFFICIAL!!

I have kidney stones.

Thought you'd all be thrilled.

picture OVERLOAD!

Once again, we had a blast on our annual Hoffmann Vacation last weekend. Here's TONS of pics...no particular order.

Emitt was a great little traveler...until the last 45 minutes or so...
Fortunately, we borrowed Klint's parents' DVD player (thanks!).

And no, our 1993 Blue Streak doesn't have many of the modern conveniences. But, a Tupperware (full of cookies) nicely wedged between 2 plush seats does the job just fine!
What to do on a rainy Saturday?

The gals had a blast playing "What's a Dame to do?" Thanks for bringing it, Rebekah!
It's so amazing how well Darci plays by herself! She was entertained by these dolls for a loooong time!

Isn't this a great pic? Sisters...how cute!

Ironic: summer is almost over and Emitt finally enjoys swimming! ;)

It was such a blessing that Grandma could make it! She was a great sport (as always!)

Aunt Booxy with Aria. Awwww....

Jeff, Chelby & fam...

"Church" on Sunday...We started out with some great songs...

...which TOTALLY put Emitt to sleep! (I'd like to think it was our beautiful voices, but it was probably because he woke up 5:00 am both mornings)

Klint & Tim (& baby Will) in a deep conversation...

Here's the 2 youngest members of the family. Wouldn't be a party without them! ;)
Okay, don't you just want to squeeze him?!
A night time stroll...

Such a cute pic of Josh...

Aaron & Bekah (next vacation they'll have a Little One along!)

Maggie & Kelsey at the pool...

Intense Settlers game. From what I heard, Tim was the 'reigning champ'!

5 of us took the Blue Streak out for a DQ stop! Yummm...

No comment. ;)
No comment. ;)

Aaron practicing his Stroller Skills...

Another activity for a rainy day...
Abbi pretty excited...

Maggie showing her new nails...
Jami and Hudson...

The 3 sisters solving the world's problems...
A boat ride for Emitt!

And I can't forget a picture of the 'twins'

Aubrey & Emitt
(We missed you Seth!!)

I suppose I had it comin' to me... I DID consume quite a few of these while pregnant with him.

What can I say? He's got great taste.

Gospel Barn

Saturday was Jesse's 89th Birthday!
Jesse's favorite weekend hang-out is our local Gospel Barn. Yep, live Southern Gospel music every Saturday night!

Since it was Jesse's B-day, Klint, Emitt & I decided to tag along with him.

Emitt was the youngest person in attendance and I was the 2nd youngest. Okay, so that's a slight exaggeration, but believe me when I say "slight". ;)

Surprisingly, Emitt LOVED the Gospel Barn!!

Chowing on popcorn...

Emitt & Jesse before the show. This kid was stuffed to the brim with junk food by the time the evening was over! Uhg...

Dancing and eating at the same time. Not bad...

video

My personal favorite part of the night...too cute!
video

The evening ended with a strong patriotic song - perfect for Veteran Jesse. As we stood to sing, Jesse looked quite emotional - I even had to hold back the tears. God Bless America!

An enjoyable evening!

Happy Birthday, Jess!

What's normal?

The other evening I was in my bedroom getting ready to go somewhere and I heard Klint & Emitt playing in the other room. Emitt was laughing and laughing.

One of my first thoughts was, "Hmmm, Emitt doesn't really laugh much when I am with him..."

Then I realized Emitt doesn't laugh like that because I DON'T really "play" with him very much. I take care of his needs and talk to him, but I really don't take time to sit down and play with him.

Is it his age?

Am I too "busy"?

Is it because he plays really well by himself? So, what's normal?

Do you play with your kids during the day? Tips? Ideas? Suggestions?

Free Family Entertainment

Materials Needed:
  • Cardboard Box (Tip: If you host a Pampered Chef Party for Jenna you'll get great boxes. How's that for a free plug, Jenna?!)

  • a chair
  • a blanket
Aren't you impressed? A tunnel for the whole fam to enjoy...I even got in on the fun. Surprised, aren't you?

Emitt took this prime opportunity to cave the thing in...
There ya go. Free Family Entertainment.

Smiles all around...

First Carousel Ride

Earlier this week, Aunt Sarah Q. took Emitt on his first Carousel Ride!

Needless to say, he was pretty proud of himself...
Thanks for spoiling him, Sarah Q!
You may have to come with us next time we go to the mall - we may have a fight on our hands! ;)

The Last Hurrah!

"They" say that all good things must come to an end. Well, after 6 years, our Bible Study group have decided to "call it quits"

Here's the original group back in '03...

We ADDED a few more and LOST a few along the way...
We started out taking turns hosting Bible Study at each of our homes...then we started meeting at Starbucks...but, Starbucks left our town :(...then we started meeting at The Bean...then Emitt started walking. Yep and he was NOT content in his car seat or stroller...
SO, Krystal & Javon - bless their hearts - came to my house every time for Bible Study at 7:00 am so Emitt could sleep in. Isn't that great?
That would also explain the sleepy expressions in this pic...
Since Javon is moving in a week or so, that leaves Krystal & me. So, we decided to call it quits.

Last weekend, we had our "last hurrah!" and went out for the night. 5 of us were able to make it...

Chili's for supper...

Putt-Putt Golfing...

Cute pic of Amy & Javon...

Adding up the scores...

Eating Ice Cream!

Thanks, gals, it's been a great 6 years! Love you!

Annual Outing...

Every summer, the Meyer gals & I get together (check out last summer here)...This year, we decided to go to the Children's Museum. We about drowned in the Flash Flood we drove through (talk about a scary combo: flash flood & a directionally challenged driver) However, we made it safely (thanks, Lord!) and had a great day!

Even though none of us are 'children', we definitely got our money's worth at the Children's Museum! Jenna participated in about everything and at times even convinced the rest of us to join her!

Here's Alyssa drawing a Chinese dragon...
Jenna & Paige joined the little kids in this train display...

Probably my favorite pic. Can't beat Jenna-the-Crab's expression...
Star Wars Fans - dressed in children's sized costumes.
Too cute...

We ended the day at the yummy Paradise Bakery & headed home!
Thanks to my dad for the GPS & car (so glad I didn't ruin it by driving though all that water). Thanks to my mom for babysitting Emitt!

Last Weekend

Well, the camera was purchased Thursday night! We're still trying to figure it out ;)

Klint couldn't wait to take the first picture. Yep, while driving...

Last weekend we went on a little trip to visit friends. A group we call the 'Gramm House' gets together twice a year.

Emitt was getting a little impatient after about 4 hours of driving...he was a trooper...
We made a quick stop to visit Grandma Hoffmann...

Emitt was happy to be OUT of the car seat
And LOVED the stuffed toys...
We dropped Emitt off at U. Denny & A. Bonnie's while we met up with the "2nd generation" Gramm House for supper. Lot's of fun catching up...

Emitt had an ABSOLUTE ball at Denny & Bonnie's. He was bouncing off the walls when we came to pick him up. It's hard to see his expression in this pic, but he was laughing SO hard...

Denny & Bonnie, this was about 5 mins after leaving your house! Thanks so much for watching him!!

We spent the night at Ryan & Amber's (and their adorable little girls). Thanks so much guys - you are great hosts!

Emitt was trying really hard to give Ava a kiss. She was majorly playing hard-to-get...
Help Amber! Is this Kate or Olivia?

Kate or Olivia?
Emitt woke up at 5:00 am...UHG!!! (which gave me about 4 hours of sleep)

Doesn't he look dashing in Ava's pink princess chair...?

HISTORY in the making!! On the way to the Ringger's, he was SO exhausted (from waking so early) he fell asleep WITHOUT his blanket & paci...

We had a rainy day, but it didn't dampen the fun...
Or the food!
Grandpa Mike & Grandpa Mark entertaining the kiddos...

Grandma reading to a very tired Emitt...

Klint & Raegan...

Monicals on the way home. What a great way to end a fun weekend!

A big thanks to the Ringger's for your hospitality. We missed you Lon & Sarah, Keith & Em and Seth!

Purely Pointless #11

It's a great day!

Walmart purchased new shopping carts!

I always thought I was the unlucky person who got stuck with the loud, rackety, look-at-me-I'm-here! cart. You know, the cart you basically have to lift on one end and carry to get it to stop screeching. Not good on the old arms.

I finally realized the majority of the shopping carts are rackety. Whew. It's not me.

Well, TODAY I got a brand new cart and enjoyed my shopping experience in peace and quiet...(besides Emitt's occasional screams.)

There you have it...Purely Pointless

Fire Fighter Emitt

{Okay, so I am really desperate to get a new post up on my blog so that last pic doesn't get any more (negative) attention.}

Summer tip: In order to decrease summer boredom, trade toys with a friend! Or in my case, don't trade at all...just take. (Sorry Crew, Emitt doesn't have anything fun to trade back)

A few weeks ago Jenna brought Crew's "Fire Truck" over to occupy Emitt while I painted the porch. She even let us keep it for a week or so!

Emitt got HOURS of enjoyment out of this....let's just say he wasn't bored. At all.

Yes, even Popo The Hippo & Mr. Stripey got to ride in it.

Good news: we're camera shopping tonight!

Reflection Time.

1995: Upon seeing the developed picture, Sarah & Leah came to the disturbing realization they'd have much to discuss at their next AA (Awkward Anonymous) Meeting.

Friday, July 24, 2009

(hi husband!)

Who needs a camera when I have my old journals? Check out this entry from February 5, 1998 (I was 13 years old)...

"You know, a year ago, I liked Lance* and Josh* Well, now, a year later I finally have gotten over Josh (I think). I had a crush on Josh for about 2 to 2.5 years. Lance, I'm pretty much over too. Andrea is going out with him.

Now, I still like Bruce*. On my radio, they have this contest-thing called Cryin', Lovin' or Laughin'. People call in and tell the D.J. if they are Cryin', Lovin' or Laughin'. It's the weirdest thing, last night a girl named Sarah called in and said that she was loving a guy named Bruce. I thought that was weird. Then, tonight a guy named Bruce called in and said that he was loving a girl named Sarah. Isn't that cool?

I know that 20 years from now my kids (hi kids) will look through this and see who I had crushes on and they'll just laugh. My husband (hi husband!) wouldn't laugh. You know I'm acting so dumb. I better go, it's 11:01 pm."

*names changed for the sake of my reputation and theirs ;)

Who knew?

Until we purchase a new camera, you'll have to put up with my picture-less posts for a while.

The last few days...

WhO kNeW?

Who knew that accidentally skipping a measly 3/4 t. of Baking Soda from Pancake Batter ruins the end product?

Who knew Emitt loves listening to "Psalty The Singing Song Book" even more than his Aunt Leah did (click here)?

Who knew Poison Control recommends drinking milk for toothpaste overdose?

Who knew July could be so cold?

Who knew you could get to know a stranger really well by strictly IM, email & blogging - and now can even call her a friend? Seriously. ;) (click here)

Who knew for a girl (me) who disliked school, studying & reading could currently be in the middle of 2 books and filling out 3 Workbooks - and actually enjoying it?

Who knew I, the un-hospitable one, could have 10 'Hospitality Quests' done by July?!!!!!! (click here)

Who knew my hubby could watch hours of "Hogan's Heroes" and never get bored?

Who knew one could find so many strong similarities between a stubborn & toothless(ish) 88-year-old man and a stubborn & teething 18-month child?

Who knew how hard it was to write a Blog Post without pictures?

Jesse Update...

It's been a while since I've shared a couple good Jesse stories!

Last week while visiting him, Jesse got a hankering to rummage through his junk drawer...

Emitt & I ended up with a suit case strap & a random key chain. (Not to mention the normal pile of Bingo winnings). Oh, and he tried to give me a finger nail clipper, but I "accidentally" left it on his table.

Yesterday, Klint and I were on our way to pick up Emitt from Klint's parents' house. Klint made the suggestion that after we pick up Emitt, we take Jesse out for supper.

I had been outside several hours yesterday and my outfit and hair looked pretty tacky. I told Klint that I would be okay with taking Jesse out for supper IF we ate at Richards. I knew if we went to our normal restaurant, Corner Depot, we'd run into a lot of people we knew.

Jesse gets into our car & Klint says, "Is Richards okay tonight, Jesse?" Jesse replied, "No, County Post." (that's what he calls Corner Depot)

Needless to say, I was glaring at Klint from the back seat thinking, "Errr, WHY did you give him a choice?"

Several minutes later I found myself at County Post...er...I mean Corner Depot sitting across from Jesse in a booth. Out-of-the-blue Jesse looks at me and asks, "WHAT did you do to your hair today?! Looks like you washed it and forgot to comb it out!"

I muttered to Klint under my breath, "EXACTLY why I wanted to go to Richards."
